The Lecture Series meets the second Tuesday of the month, April through October, from 7:00-8:00pm in the Carriage House.

April 10 – Plants on the Move in a Changing World
William McNamara, Executive Director of Quarryhill Botanical Garden (Glen Ellen), will focus his talk on how and why humans have been moving plants around the world for thousands of years. He will stress why it is important to conserve them now in a rapidly changing environment.
May 8 – Orchids for Your Home
An orchid specialist from X-Oticals Nursery (Santa Rosa) will exhibit a variety of orchids and discuss potting, feeding, and watering to maintain the most beautiful and long-lasting orchids you’ve ever grown.
June 12 – Make and Take your Own Succulent Dish Garden
Adele Yare, Burbank Volunteer and talented gardener, will assist you in creating a succulent garden and explain how to care for it. Just bring a terra cotta pot (8 to 10 inches diameter, 2 to 4 inches deep) with a bottom drainage hole, and a chopstick. Succulent plants and potting soil will be provided during the demonstration.
July 10 – Dahlias: Summer’s Finest Showoffs
A dahlia specialist from X-Oticals Nursery (Santa Rosa) will talk about the best way to raise gorgeous dahlias, from choosing new tubers to tuber division.
August 14 – The Cultural History of Armstrong Redwoods
Doris Dickenson and Dr. Carmen Finley, authors and historians, will give a presentation about the cultural history of this State Natural Reserve. Included will be a biographical sketch of Colonel James B. Armstrong, his family and his legacy, and how Luther Burbank played a part in the history of Armstrong Redwoods.
September – Fall Planting of Winter Vegetables
Susan Hatch, Manager of King’s Nursery (Santa Rosa) and popular returning lecturer, will share her expertise in how to successfully grow the best winter vegetables you’ve ever had in your garden.
October – The Buzz About Bees
Bee specialist April Lance, Healdsburg Master Gardener and beekeeper, will talk about all things relating to honeybees. She will share interesting and useful facts for humans to know and describe the types of flowers that keep bees happy and productive.
